Summer Letter:
Dear Superstar, August, 2012
It’s hard to believe that it is already that time of the year again. By now, you are probably thinking about coming back to school as a third grader. I know some of you can’t wait to get back to school. Others of you might be a little bit hesitant. However, I want you to know that I’m positive that we are going to have an amazing year. I’ll be in and out of the building from now until school starts trying to get the room just right. If you would like to stop in and see me before school starts you may do so. I am very excited about you and all the other students in our class. We have a very special class this year and I’ll tell you why I believe that on the first day of school.
I hope that you are having a wonderful summer so far. I am looking forward to hearing all about your summer adventures when school starts. I am planning a fun-filled, exciting new year. We are going to have a fantastic year. We will be learning so many new things, making new friends, and having a wonderful time. I am very excited for school to begin so that we can start our learning together.
Don’t forget the list of books you read over the summer for the Governor’s summer reading program. If you did any writing or kept a journal that you might want to share you may certainly bring that in as well. Also, if you are feeling ambitious, you can begin collecting pictures, words, magazine clippings and anything else that will help us get to know you and your interests. One of our first projects in school will be creating a collage on your new Writer's Notebook about you and the things you like or have experienced. I’ll tell you more about it when school gets started. If you haven’t practiced your math facts much over the summer you might want to visit thatquiz.org or Math Magician. They are fun websites to help you with your facts and other math skills. Also, check out our very own class Wikipage. There are a lot of fun websites that you can visit from there as well. You can visit it by going to the Chester Elementary School Webpage. Look under Grade Three and click on my name!
Please bring in a backpack (hopefully one that will fit in a small locker), a nutritious snack such as fruit or vegetables, and either a lunch or lunch money. You might want to bring in a water bottle as well. Other than that, I will have all the school supplies that you will need to get started in third grade. However, if you want to bring in special pencils, erasers, or other school supplies you may. If you chose to bring in a pencil sharpener for your desk, please be sure that it collects the pencil shavings. This will help keep your desk tidy! Unfortunately you will not have room in your desk to bring in binders or folders.
I hope you have a super end-of-summer. I can’t wait to see you, Superstar!

Sincerely,
Ms. Raymond
